Title: Processing and Politics: Experimental and Corpus-based Research on Conceptual Metaphors
Abstract: In this talk, I introduce the Conceptual Mapping Model (Ahrens, 2010) and contrast its predictions with categorization based models. I then provide psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic evidence in support of the Conceptual Mapping Model. Lastly, I use examples extracted from a corpus of political speeches to demonstrate how native speakers utilize conceptual metaphor paradigms when expressing their view of the world.
